Ficus Lyrata

Ben's Planter (Medium)

Ficus Lyrata, also known as Fiddle-leaf Fig, is native to the West-African tropical rainforests. Its popularity grew because of its gorgeous home styling photography on Pinterest and Instagram.

  • Thrives under sunlight and requires bright, filtered light. Place it in a bright place, but do avoid the harsh afternoon sun.
  • Water the plant in small amount. Do not overwater, it does not need too much moisture all at once. Your goal is to keep the soil evenly moist - and the plant will take care of itself. Once a month, thoroughly water the plant to flush out the extra salt and impurities that build up in the soil.
  • Consider to repot your plant annually. Change the soil and dirt and repot it to a bigger pot. It is only natural for a plant to grow bigger and taller, and therefore needs room for the roots to extend.

Monstera Deliciosa

Monstera, also known as Swiss Cheese Plant, is native to the tropical rainforest in Central America.  Monstera is famously known for their large leaves and natural leaf-holes. You can count on a few pots of Monstera to instantly turn your home into an urban jungle.

  • Able to handle both brightly lit or dark places, but thrives best in bright to medium indirect light. Place it in a bright area but avoid the direct sunlight if you wish for your Monstera to grow at a faster rate.
  • Use filtered water and water the plant in small amount. Do not overwater, it does not need too much moisture all at once. Your goal is to keep the soil evenly moist - and the plant will take care of itself. You can water more regularly if the plant is placed in brightly lit area and water less if the plant is placed in a darker spot in your home.
  • Consider to repot your plant annually. Change the soil and dirt and repot it to a bigger pot. It is only natural for a plant to grow bigger and taller, and therefore needs room for the roots to extend.
  • Love the look of monstera but find want to save on purchasing another monstera? Consider multiplying your pots of monstera by raising plants from cuttings. Simply cut a leaf with its stem and stick the cutting into a pot with moist soil.

Fiscus Elastica

Faith's Sunrise Planter

Rubber trees, also known as Fiscus Elastica, is native to Asia, in particular Malaysia, Sumatra and Java. The beauty of the Fiscus Elastica is that it can grow quickly to an impressive height to become a tall and beautiful indoor plant. Plant nurseries tend to put a higher price tag on a medium sized Fiscus Elastica, so if you have the patience and would love to see the labour of your heart and hard work, you should consider a young Fiscus Elastica with only a few leaves. Not only will you enjoy the entire growing process, the plant will also be able to adapt better to your indoor environment.

  • Thrives best in bright to medium indirect light. Place it in a bright area but avoid the direct sunlight if you wish for your Fiscus Elastica to grow at a faster rate.
  • Use filtered water and water the plant in small amount. The condition of the soil will tell your whether your plant is thirsty. Touch the soil and water once the soil becomes slightly dry to touch. Do not overwater, it does not need too much moisture all at once. Your goal is to keep the soil evenly moist - and the plant will take care of itself. Have sufficient drainage holes in your pot to allow excess water to seep through.
  • Use filtered water with soft cloth and sponge to clean the leaves regularly to achieve a glossy, clean and dust free look.
  • Prune your plant regularly to restrict its growth. Else, consider to repot your plant to a bigger pot if you want it to grow taller. Change the soil and dirt and repot it to a bigger pot. It is only natural for a plant to grow bigger and taller, and therefore needs room for the roots to extend.

We sure hope you've gotten some inspiration on the various types of indoor plants that will be perfect for Mother's Day, and do remember to tend to the plant pots too. Leaving pots and plant saucer on the tiles without caring for it can stain the floor. We certainly do not want our mothers to spend their time trying to keep the floor clean!
